My name is Veronica Lacquement. I grew up in the busy techy hub of San Francisco. I graduated High School at 12 years of age and went directly to the local community College. There I avidly studied art of a huge range, from digital imaging to graphic design to illustration and painting. I took
it all and built up an expansive skill base. I took these skills with me and started doing some commission work and small temp jobs after I graduated with my Associate of Arts degree.
For a few years after graduating I simply found temporary work and enjoyed my art. Soon though I decided I did want to get my Bachelor's degree and began searching. As it happened my eye was trained up on British Columbia, Canada and soon I was enrolling in the Fine Arts department there. I moved from San Francisco to Canada when I was 20 and found myself in a whole new world. Again I started taking digital and traditional art classes, but finding their stress on doing this according to how everyone else in history did them rather tedious. The program turned out not to be what I was told and I quickly became disenchanted with it, but not with Canada.
It being expensive to live as an international student I made the choice to move again after two years. I had rekindled friendships and formed a relationship with a very old friend in Oregon, and so the move was on! It was back to finding out who I was and living a life instead of pursuing school. Yet all during this time I had been using my skills for my own pleasure, constantly finding new and exciting ways to expand on them.
Two years ago a whole new world was opened up to me. Children. I had my first child, a boy, and it was wonderful. I started looking at all things baby and began to play around with designing Baby Announcements. I found this fun but didn't push it for doing anything on a professional level, just for friends and family.
Then this year I had my second child and my eyes got opened to a new possibility. In playing around with pictures of her and of friend's babies I discovered I could do some pretty neat effects. I had always known I was able to remove backgrounds, edit things out, and basically rework a picture with ease. After all it was one of the major things I had been taught how to do at school. So I quickly started gathering pictures from friends of their babies, some of them quite complex, and seeing what I could do with them. It quickly became obvious to me that this was something I enjoyed and a professional service I could offer to others. Especially in the case of preemies and sick children were concerned. I took one picture of a little boy in the NICU, his arm bandaged and gavauge tubes running into his noise and a few other unpleasant reminders of his risky beginning and removed it all. The end result was this little baby blooming from a rose bud, held in the palm of a hand. That was the deciding factor. Let's start a business.
So now I'm a work at home mom looking to offer my creative and artistic eye and skills to other moms who want something that isn't just your everyday picture for a decent price.
